Terrific motion shot, Allan. It pays to be daring!Donna R. Moratelli March 16, 2004
Now how close were you to this train? You must have been shaking in your snow boots!I am afraid when I use a telephoto lens with images like this because I can't judge how close I really am to the subject.OMG. PLEASE... be careful!!
This is an excellent image; Allan
The composition and motion blur are very well captured!! Great job with this one! Donnarae~ #426431

Thanx for all the absolutely GREAT comments from everyone (Kathleen, Colette,Stephen, Shirley, Judy, and Donnarae) and anyone else I might've missed. I was about 7-8 feet away from him as he went bye (leaaning on the barrier). He blew his air horn at me and almost gave me a heart attack. He was doing about 50 kms an hour and the wind blast was just incredible. Donnarae, I took about 5-6 shots as he got closer and closer and then another 4-5 after he went bye. It was such an incredible rush. Thanx again everyone - Allan #426481Donna R. Moratelli March 16, 2004
Yes; I bet it was a SUPER RUSH! I would have been afraid that it would have kicked up stones in my face and equipment,or blew my tripod down. WOW, you'r a brave man! #426564Charlene Bayerle March 16, 2004
Great capture Allan, but are you crazy!!!! #426597Lori Ditlefsen March 16, 2004
Nice shot Allan! Love the way you captured the front head on and the rest trailing behind in movement. Nice work! #426674Beverley Lu Steeves March 16, 2004

Thanx to you all for the great comments that are greatly appreciated (DonnaRae, Charlene, Lori, Beverley, Karen, and Robin). Char I've been called a lot of things and crazy is definitely one of them, on occasion, DonnaRae - great rush, but no tripod, hand held. Karen not dangerous when you hang on for dear life to a barrier. Thanx again everyone - Allan #427051Susie Peek-Swint March 16, 2004
Wonderful capture Allan -- nothing like being up close and personal! I once tried this with a hovercraft and was nearly blown away .. LOL! #427326Allan L. Whitehead March 16, 2004

Thanx Leanna, I always appreciate your comments and support. Looks like the strike is almost over, and could be by Friday. Thanx again - Allan #427526Donna R. Moratelli March 16, 2004
Oh, I see Allan; 400 asa. I never go any higher than 100 with my D60 and never even tried. When I shot slide film, I used 50 asa. This is very amazing quality for 400. I didn't notice any grain. A winning image!. Great job and a great discussion too! #427670Donna R. Moratelli March 16, 2004
Sorry to bother you again Allan but, I had to enlarge this again and NOW I see the grain. When I first looked at it,I thought it was blowing snow. I am so unaccustomed to grain that I thought it was something else. Was it snowing during the shoot? Donnarae~ #427675Bonnie C. Lackey March 16, 2004
I used to live next door to a train brakeman and he would tell about how slow oppossums were on the tracks - don't be an oppossum, ok? #427720Carol Brill March 17, 2004
What a wonderful perspective you have in this shot, Allan, I like how the train curves so you can see all along the length of it--great job on the depth and detail--and in not getting blown away by the wind or the horn blast, thank goodness!! #427919Allan L. Whitehead March 17, 2004
Thanx for all of the great comments (Donna Rae, Bonnie and, Carol) I really appreciate them. Donna it had snowed the night before and there was some snow flying. I usually don't get any grainy features in my shots. It could be in this case that because of using the motion blur and reducing of quality down from 300 dpi to 100 dpi to upload it, I probably used too much "sharpen" in PS CS.
