Description

This was the last image I took after almost 3 hours of waiting, with camera mounted on tripod, for the sun to be "just right." Usually, I know when I have "nailed" a shot but here I wasn't at all sure. As soon as I arrived home, I fired up Photoshop and viewed the image. I was immediately taken by the quality and power of the image as told by the colors and elements of Freedom and Industry in America. Nikon D1x

Thank you Cathy, Kristen and Nancy. I'm pleased that you found this image interesting. I made a special trip to Battery Park NYC in the late afternoon to shoot the Statue of Liberty as a sillhouette. The sailboat came along a few minutes before my very last shot at sunset. The cranes in the background are a real part of the harbor industrial complex and are used in loading and unloading ships. This is not a composite image. All that you see was an actual part of of the scene. The sky color is largely a result of the smog that is ever-present in large cities such as New York. #714064
