Dog Gone!!

Uploaded: March 29, 2002

Description

Taken with OM-10. I don't think this dog knew where to run when he was in this situation. BTW this is an actual photo. I tracked this dog for about 15-20mins playing in the surf until this scene crossed before my eyes.

Excellent shot, Adam! Love this! Nice, nice, nice. #4464

Thanks Piper. For me this is one of those shot in a million... have to be at the right place at the right time. I was very lucky with this shot but I thought that this dog could give me something from the way he was playing in the surf and with the other dogs on the beach. In reality the wave is not that close to him. Shot with a 2x covertor and 200 lens... so the background seems closer. He stood up on his hind legs to see his master over the wave. I did not even know what I truly had until the picture came back but the light his posture and the waves just made it perfect for me.
Thanks again, Adam #6400

Hi Adam

I think this photo is terrific - it reminds me of those 'well-worn' posters you get of whales and the sea but in this case there is more colour! I would certainly buy this as a poster. Hint, Hint!

Hi Carole, I would love to be able to blow this up to poster size. Unfortunately it was shot on neg. film and also pushed from 200 to 400 ISO. I needed the shutter speed shooting with a zoom + 2x convertor. This has added a fair bit of grain to the final image but it was worth it rather than not getting the shot at all.
Cheers Adam
PS 8x12" prints are selling in the lobby for AUS $19.95... LOL #6664

Carole Lydon April 08, 2002

I'll have to settle for the 12"......
Forgive the ignorance from a UK Native - the Lobby? #6672

A litle bit of a joke actually... I think it may have been a quote from the movies ... BTW the lobby is an Hotel Foyer, Enterance etc.

Hi again, Adam. Where are you in Oz?

By the way, it's your composition that won this. If the dog had been in the center, I don't think it would have the same impact. #6674

Adam Bolt April 08, 2002

Hey Piper... Yep on the Gold Coast in QLD. Pretty stoked to get in the final list for this one. I've only been doing this for just over a year now... sporting accident made me take up something a bit different.
Cheers Adam #6678

Oh, geez...a Queenslander...LOL. I'm in Texas, by the way, but I have friends in NSW and 'across the ditch' in NZ. I take it you surf or something similar (sporting accident). I don't know why you people keep getting in the water down there. Too many dangerous critters in your oceans!

Great shot, and it's not a fluke. You have a great eye trying to emerge. I don't believe in lucky shots. You either have it, or you don't. Sometimes, it just takes 3,000 exposures to learn how to harness what you already have.

this picture is just perfect! I actually chuckled out loud soon as I saw it. it's as if you can read the dog's mind from behind. and the energy of the sea and the sky pulls your attention right into the photograph. congratulations on this treasure you found in your negatives!

Hi Adam,
Where's the voice balloon with the caption "Bugger".
(Local Aussie Joke)
Well worth the 15-20 mins wait.

I like how you captured this moment. I love dogs. I like the splash of the water. I like the contrast of the color too (between the dog and the beach). #7348
