Description

This is a Glasswing Butterfly (Greta oto). The shot was taken at the Brookside Gardens' "Wings of Fancy" annual exhibit in Wheaton, Maryland. These butterflies are usually found in Costa Rica, and I consider myself fortunate to have found this little fellow at all. Very difficult to see since the wings really are transparent! I used auto settings and flash.

Lori, Ron, Colleen, Brinn, and Jean,

Wow, guys! I don't know what to say other than Thank You All. When I found this beauty hiding in the flowers, I couldn't believe it. I had never heard of (much less seen) a butterfly with transparent wings, and knew I had to try to get a shot of it. Fortunately, it was very cooperative and didn't move a millimeter. I'm happy you all enjoyed the shot! Thanks! #232937
