Azure Dawn

Uploaded: October 09, 2003

Description

I captured this lovely waterlily at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania in June 2003. It is of the Nymphaea family and named “Azure Dawn.” It was taken in full light at about 11:00 a.m. I had been using a tripod for most of my shots, but this one was with a handheld camera (so I could move closer to the flower). I love the contrast of the dark water and the vibrant yellow of the flower’s center.

Grayce, I'm so glad you liked this one. It is one of my favorites. In fact, I have it hanging on my living room wall in size 36 x 24. The most amazing thing to me was how clearly it looks even at that size. Thanks again! Jay

Denise,

Thanks for the compliments! It is always good to hear positive comments from other great photographers. I have to admit I'm envious that you have so many great models living right under your roof! When I shoot portraits, I'm always concentrating on eys and hands. For some reason, hands "make" a portrait for me, and, of course, beautiful eyes make a portrait pop. Both Nick and Matthew have those eyes, and you are doing a great job capturing them. Keep up the good work! Jay #3295378

Thanks yet again, Susan! Aren't you supposed to be asleep by now? And thanks for letting me know about the Chinese lotuses. I'm sure you are right about the stunning landscapes Japan has to offer, and I hope to see them someday. Good luck with landscapes, too! I'm afraid I don't capture them well at all, but I do spend most of my time in the macro world. I would love to hear more about Japan when and if you have the time! Keep shooting! Jay
