Melissa, Thanks for the comments.I never expected to see this when I thought I would see Bald Eagles!Between the engine noise and horns, along with its' size it probably sends all the birds into hiding.- Mike #2598697

Really nice shot. The most unexpected aspect was seeing a BNSF dressed locomotive east of Chicago. 20 years ago, this would have been like getting a real picture of bigfoot! Neither road, Burlington Northern (formerly the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and the Great Northern merger) or Atchinson, Topeka and Sante Fe, had rights to travel to the Hudson Valley. Terrific! #2599679

Jim, thanks for the comment and the history. Are you familiar with the Hudson Valley, This location is shared by bird watchers and railfans. It has heavy freight rail traffic through it. I came across it while working. Right place, Right time.- Mike #2600802

I must be having a senior moment! How did you get the same loco from two very different viewpoints? Love the shots, and can hear, smell and feel those big diesels. Wonderful. And makes me regret even more that they closed down the freight line just a quarter mile or so across the corn and bean fields from our home. Now it is just another soul-less cycle track so cleaned up and sterile that not a rail spike or tie remains to remind the next generation of what it once was. But this is America! Get rid of the old stuff and put up a new plywood monstrosity.... But I guess this is no place for my soapbox speeches....

Pete, I got the different view points by running,Only kidding. This shot was taken at 300mm while the train was still a good distance away. The other image was at 70mm when the train was almost parallel to me and close enough that you could feel it.Fortunetly you can hear them comming before you can see them. -Mike #2706451
