Glory of the past
Uploaded: March 17, 2006
This was the palace for a southern king back in the Ming Dynasty (1300s). Now it is a part of a normal school (teacher's college). Commoners are now free to wander in this once forbidden place. Guilin, China.

Stunning Photo, Pu! The beauty of the architecture, being 700 years old amazes me (it always has). Cheers, Glenn. #2541622Carolyn J. Connolly March 17, 2006

Thank you very much for your comment, Margaret, Ray, Derek, Glenn, Carolyn and Karen! Gulin is in Southern China and it was considered to be somewhat remote from the central government. What I found particular interesting is that the multiple functions the palace now serves. It is part of a campus, a tourist attraction and also a local park. So you can see students wandering, people exercising and tourists taking pictures. And it used to be an ancient school and served as a test ground for the national exams. #2545105Nadya Johnson March 31, 2006
I have missed a lot of photos lately due to this and that, so I stopped to see your gallery. Enjoyed them all a lot! This one is marvelous! What color, and I love the composition! Very interesting, as well! #2595414Pu Chen April 01, 2006
