Similar to a horizontal composition of this scene, I liked this vertical version better in some ways. Using hyperfocal focusing, I was able to make the "flying saucer" ice formation a little more prominent in the foreground. I also liked the vertical orientation of the river blending into the tall trees behind, the tops of which had to be eliminated in the landscape orientation. Perfect stillness rendered the distant trees and the snow crystals sharp at f22 using a 45mm Pentax 645 medium format lens, polarizing filter, and Fuji Velvia 100. A Bogan tripod was used for stabilization. The brooding sky contrasted nicely with the snow. Many stretches of this river in NH's White Mountains are quite inspiring.
