Sink Hole

Description

Yesterday morning, in West Philadelphia a (circa 1885) 36" water main burst, shooting out millions of gallons of water onto the streets of a small neighborhood. I was sent to photograph the scene (and Red Cross volunteers) for the RC. By the time I arrived, the water had been stopped, but the streets were covered in thick mud, and a large sink hole had opened into which two cars fell. The car in the rear is resting on a gas main. The heat was oppressive, and once again, I went home soaked to the skin. The residents had a night of no electricity, and basements flooded with muddy water. The city did not have a ready solution for cleanup inside the houses.

Looks great from the news perspective. I at first thought it was the scene from Baltimore next to the train tracks that sank from a very driven rain situation. Once again great coverage. #11318783
