Honor the Dead

Description

The 21-gun Salute, known as "Honor the Dead," was the finale of yesterday's Memorial Day services in Philadelphia. There were two similar ceremonies--one at the beautiful Korean War Memorial and the second at the Vietnam War Memorial, styled similarly to the Wall on the Mall in Washington. Somehow, when I got home yesterday, there was a spent rifle shell casing in my photographer's vest pocket. There is no good explanation for this.

Beautiful tribute and great comp. You asked about the empty bleaches in my graduation picture. Those bleaches were the visiters bleachers for games. Everyone for graduation sit in the home bleachers to face the students. #11308985

Oh...that explains it. Thanks. #11309000

What a lovely tribute, but best of all is how the flag is displaying, Michelle, not just hanging down, the wind is doing it justice! Lovely shot! #11309003

Yes, and the wind was also welcome in the blazing heat of midday! I actually had to flip this photo horizontally because I was on the "wrong" side of the flag! #11309004

What a great capture, Michelle. I agree with Deb...the flag blowing in the wind is wonderful. #11309042

Wonderful clarity, comp & lighting, Michelle. Kind of eerie about the shell casing. #11309160

Thank you for the info along with this emotional picture. Between taps and the 21 gun salute, I still get choked up and tears flow even after all these years. A most beautiful look and so heart touching Michelle. Thank you. #11309180
