I was out testing a new used lens I bought earlier in the week. Don't know if I will get better pictures, but I will sure get some amusing ones. #1556763

Very cool the way you focused through the foreground cover, Stephen. Where was this? #10927176

This is Bass Lake, a shallow but broad holding pond about a mile from my house. For several years now there have been migrating geese there for the winter. This year, for the last couple of months on my way to work each day I've noticed that bunch of pelicans off at the far side of the lake. I went down fairly early this morning to try out my new long tele-photo lens. While I was taking pictures of the pelicans a large flock of geese arrived and settled down in the water. At this point, they were skimming the water right in front of and below me.

I wasn't focusing through the ground cover on this. I was focusing higher in the frame on the birds themselves. As I recall, it is just a matter of optics that the reflections are in the same plane of focus as the geese. This is a pretty severe crop and the framing just causes it to look like I'm focusing through the dried grasses. #10927245

I really like the Formation Flying one the best... The reflections really are interesting!
This looks like a really busy place! Enjoy your lens! Which camera were you using? #10927331

Thanks for the info Stephen. Haven't been to Bass lake for years. Maybe time to revisit. #10927462

This isn't the Bass Lake at Oakhurst, Dale. This just a little regulating pond close to my house. #10927471

Formation flying is a really interesting shot with that reflection. Lens looks good to me. As you know I love mine and shoot with it a lot in many different situations. #10928059

Beautiful captures of these big birds. I love Canada Geese and especially when they honk in flight. It's so much fun to get a new lens and visit familiar places to see it all anew. Nice work! #10928471
