Description

(while they slept . . . and while I swatted mosquitoes)

This image is a composite (or "stack") of 326 images beginning at 11:46 pm and ending at 01:22 am on 07-19-13 (THU night of camp week 5) for an effective star-trail exposure of more than 90 minutes. Each image F/3.5, 15s, ISO- 400. Canon 50D camera body with Canon EF-S 10-22 mm lens at 10mm on tripod with programmable shutter release (1 s interval between exposures).

The building in the foreground is “Wenberg Hall”, otherwise known as the camp “Program Center”. Portions of the building and the camp sign were “painted” with an LED flashlight for several frames to make the location identifiable.

The location is Bear Paw Scout Camp (BSA), Oconto County, Wisconsin.

The “StarStax” shareware program was used to create this image.

Well that's a lot of mosquitoes you swatted and what a wonderful image you captured, Steven!!! How long did it take to stack all these exposures in StarStax?

Thanks for your kind comment Usman. I am sure that the time depends on PC you are using, but the StarStax program is pretty quick and easy to use. It works well for other applications too - like stacking (compositing) lightning or fireworks images. Check it out. Best Regards, Steven #10785023
