A Fisherman in Nakijin

Uploaded: September 13, 2012

Description

Nakijin Village is located on the Motobu Peninsula of Okinawa, Japan. This fisherman, Shokitan Motoo, had just come out of the water after a few tosses of his net. He didn't catch any fish. I had been standing on the coral rocks above, watching him. Off on the horizon is Izena Island. My boat trip there had been cancelled due to an aproaching typhoon. We joked and laughed. Mother Nature rules the world. Okinawan people know that and accept it. Better days will come, if you just wait. Smile and enjoy life. It's the Okinawan way.
