Description

Spotted this Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) on a stroll at my local moorings. It was originally posed with its head facing the other way & I really liked that composition. But as I raised my camera it looked down at me and with an expression of total disdain turned its head the other way & refused to turn it back no matter how much I pleaded. Perhaps it was showing me its best side.

Photographed at the Fisherman's Moorings on the Hastings River in Port Macquarie, NSW,

Exif: F Number: 8, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/1000 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 70.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

Yowza ARTHUR!

Glad of your company along moorings.

Many thanks in deed for your inspiring feedback mate.

I was quite taken by the effect of the afternoon light across the bird's breast.

What a beautiful capture, Dennis. Your comp, as always, is excellent, as are details and lighting. But you already know that. I love his webbed feet clutching the arm of the lamp, and more than that, I love that you talk to it (even if it wished you wouldn't). #10246386

Nice Capture, Dennis, and the B?W conversion works well. While having the bird's head facing the other way may have been a more pleasing composition to you, this has a better story, and who better than you to tell it. And a pelican that perches on a light post fits with all the other interesting animals you have down there. #10247008
