After seven years at BP I am leaving. I cut my digital teeth on this site and have much to be thankful for. The advice from fellow members and the exchange of ideas have helped me to become the photographer I am today. Sadly, I have also found growing frustrations in recent years, particularly in the arbitrary and haphazard distribution of EPs. Seeing quality work by many being passed over, and learning of the damage that did to their vision, has convinced me it is time to move on.More than anything I will miss all the friends I have made here. Their generosity of spirit has moved me more often than I can count. Some have changed my life. I will never forget you. Your influence will appear in every new image I create. #1441857

I wish you well, Steve. You will be missed. Those of us who stay do so for the reasons that you cite--the comraderie, the friendship, and the learning we gain and impart to one another. Just that seems worth the membership.Adios. #9970257

Your talent will surely be missed within this site Steve! You are a very creative and talented photographer!
I, too, have been having thoughts of departing from BP....I guess like Michelle stated, it's the friendships that keep me here. I have many times been disillusioned(sp) and discouraged recently and wonder if I should move on as well. I feel that every photographer is an artist. What we take a photo of is what we SEE, what we VISION, what we CREATE and what we want to SHARE with others, as an expression of ourselves, so to speak. It's a shame that Thousands of talented people put their hopes into receiving that recogniton, only to end up feeling like they have failed at an art that they've put their heart and souls into. My commenting on others' images has decreased by quite alot as those same frustrations loom within me as well, that I can barely bring myself to submit any images at all. My desire seems to be fading, and yet, I feel as though I'm at a crossroads and have no idea which way to go from here. I have learned a great deal from members within BetterPhoto and I will always have that knowledge with me, just as you do! Your work is worthy of having an EP, Finalist and Winner underneath each image you submit...Your work worthy of hanging on walls around the world!
Good Luck To You Steve!
I hope to see your work around the web!

Sorry to see you go, Steve. You inspire me with your work, and the comments you give that inspire us to keep shooting. I especially remember your comments to me about a photo I took of an antique camera, which I'm sure helped in that photo being chosen for Digital Darkroom newsletter. Please let us know where you land out there on the WWW, so we can support you in your future endevours. You will be sorely missed. #9972474

Maybe the person doing the editor's pick ought to look beyond HDR...? That seems to be a near-guaranteed approach for getting an EP :-) Which I think is a petty. #9990015Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
