Description

Interior view of the Anglican Cathedral in Christchurch,New Zealand, taken after the first earthquake of last year in Nov. The 130 year old National Treasure was modeled on the Christ Church in Oxford England. The second quake in Feb. this year resulted in the spire being destroyed, and after an aftershock in June, the rose window as seen here was totally destroyed. The interior has been deemed unsafe and looks like most or all of the building will demolished.

Wow, what a tragic story, Ian! How sad that the gorgeous stained glass window was destroyed and now the entire church has to be demolished. This will serve as a wonderful memory of this gorgous cathedral for you and I'm sure you'll always treasure it. #1425331

An excellent title for this fine interior capture Ian! It is a sad event, that's for sure! #9828832

I have lived in Christchurch all my life and only once been inside the Cathedral. Tomorrow the Council is opening up a walkway into the city so that the people of our city can view the Cathedral and see for themselves the devastation. It will more than likely be demolished or partly demolished. Cost to restore is astronomical, 50 billion plus I believe. A gorgeous capture here. #9828863

We lose some beautiful architecture to natural disasters Ian! Christchurch gave up more than its fair share during this harrowing time! You are fortunate to have visited in recent times and no doubt have many memories captured! Beautifully captured!
