Description

Taken with OM-10 and Kodak E100vs slide film. This is exactly how I shot the image as a multi ple exposure. The image of the moon was shot with a Sigma 400mm f5.8 at 1/125sec f5.6 and the scene was shot at 7mins at f11. I am not sure if it was worth me standing in the frame for that long or if it would be better without me in the image!

Need to add that the scene was shot with a Sigma 28mm f2.8 and not the 400mm.

I think the image is great with you in it. Gives a different reflection on it. Like wondering what 'that guy' was thinking about as he stood there. Great job! #105602

I really like this image. As for you in it...I think you're too far over to have much impact one way or the other. I would like to have seen you about 1/3 in from the left, between 2 of the lights. But, with, or without you...it's a super image! #105630

Thankyou to everyones comments. I had fun experimenting with this technique and now that I know what exposures work well, ita knowledge that I will put into practice for some later images. And Murry G, I just visited your gallery (Havent seen your work before... been off line for sometime). Your standard of imagery is something to work towards!

What was your meter reading for the seperate scenes? Did you deviate from what your camera said? Great shot!

I am going to try something like this in southern Utah next weekend and was just wondering how to go about doing it.

Thanks #420751

Hi Ryan!... What you see here is what the slide looks like. Its a very simple technique but requires a little prep work. Two exposures were taken on the one frame of Fuji Sensia 100 iso film (Multiple exposure). The first exposure was for the moon. I set the camera manually for 1/125 sec at f5.6 on my Sigma 400mm lens... framed the moon in the viewfinder to the top left (Being very careful to focus manually on the moon and make sure there is room around the edge for cropping later). The second exposure was taken using my Sigma 28mm f2.8 wide angle lens set at f11. The camera was tripped and locked on the bulb setting with a cable release and I moved to the right of the frame. Because of the long exposure I was taking, I also knew that I wouldnt be seen in the picture moving to that position. Took a timer with me and stood in the one position for 8 min and then moved out of frame again and disengaged the cable release to stop the exposure. Only other thing to do then is to advance the frame in the camera so that no more exposures are taken on that frame... and thats it! Simple technique but takes time!!!
Some cameras have a multiple exposure button, so you would set it to two frames. If it is a manual wind on camera, all you have to do is disengage the film release button and hold the film advance lever so that you can then forward the camera for the second exposure without the film moving, so you can get two exposures on the one frame. If you cover the moon with one hand, you will see what the scene looks like with out having the two exposures on the one frame. The one thing I didnt do was use my cameras exposure reading... its a matter of trial and error. I was shooting more towards the moon for this shot. If you shot so that the moon was to your side you would find you would need a longer exposure again to light the foreground!

Adam,
This is a really neat shot, beautiful and well done as your gallery is also. You in the shot. Someone said whatever does not add to the photo detracts..I didn't even notice you at first, I was drawn to the moon and the lights, trying to determine how you shot it.(Thanks for the info on how)
My point is that first it was a great shot not noticing you; then it was
another kind of great shot with you in there, take your pick, see what I mean? Its like two different "messages". Just my thoughts. Jim #1974677

Someone left me a message in regards to how this was shot and what camera would be best and also if they could purchase a print. I've just swapped computers and the details to contact this person were lost. If that person reads this message, could they please send me another message.
