Excellent piece of photography. Cudos! #1798199Susana Ms Heide September 02, 2005
VIVA!!! Sobre todo en este mes de la patria! This is a brilliant idea! Very well done, Protacio! I really, really love it!!! The only thing I would change would be to bring the red guy's face down to the same level as the other two. It would give it that repetition my eye is looking for. Just my 2 cents though. Either way an EXCELLENT image! #1798204Pu Chen September 03, 2005

Very cool :) #1822983Pam M September 12, 2005
Well, well! Protacio! You still live and breathe, too. (I do too BTW ;) but real life has been screaming for more writing than photography ... much to my surprise considering my new location in "paradise")ok well I agree with Susana, there's something off about the red man. But for me it's more than alignment of eyebrows ... not to diminish that in any way ... definatly the viewing eye demands it.
But ... his face carries a different attitude. the other two are mmm ... more content(?) looking while red looks more intent. the first two almost have a "look at me. I am interesting" attitude while red has a "i see you. I am interested (carefully watching)."
I'm not saying this is a bad thing for red to be so different ... but it's not reflective of the photo's title. Maybe a change of title would change the viewing mind's demand for repititon.
Again ... this is, of course, in my ever so humble opinion ;)
I saw your picture of the week at http://www.pserna.com. Beautiful Image. But your description is more beautifully written.
When my daughter called me from Dallas and told me all that was happening for them there, I felt like it wasn't just death of thousands ... which is huge in and of itself ... but the culture in New Orleans ... so unique ... is like the death of generations and generations ... your description says it well.
I have been blessed with two friends in my life who were raised in New Orleans. They were unique and different ... like their city ... I lost track of them years ago ... now, I worry about them. I don't think they were there but I wonder who and what they lost from their generations of history. I cannot comprehend.
but this I do know
the people of New Orleans
believe it is good
to find a way
in your day
to have fun ...
perhaps my friends
caused me to have
this wish for you
have fun,

Hi there Pam…you’re absolutely right about the content/intent situation. We thought about making red more playful or kind of “don’t let me out of the picture”…that is why he goes into the picture instead of being there from the beginning. You are right about the title also, but somehow I went the easy way this time.
Anyhow…the picture didn’t make it to the cover it was intended for, but it was fun to try it. Models had a good time, and so did I. The girl was somewhat worried since her make up was terrible, but fortunately I had a few frames of her before makeup so I managed to savage her eye and brow from a different frame.
About my new pic of the week…well…what else can I tell you…New Orleans was the first major city I visited in the USA a while ago…I felt in love with the city instantly. The picture I posted belongs to my third trip to the French Quarter. Not a great picture actually, but I enjoyed that afternoon so much.
I’m looking forward to go back there in the future; I count on the character of southern people to rebuild the Crescent City.
Thanks for writing…take care.

LOL I spent time marveling at how well the make-up was done on the girl. Well done indeed!Just because the piece didn't make a cover doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a little more thought. Don't be toss'n the baby out with the bath water. Give it a spot to rest near you and one day it will tell you it's title.
AND LISTEN HEAR YOUNG MAN! ... Do NOT be dismissing your photo from New Orleans ... I'm one of those southern girls who drove through New Orleans getting from Texas to Florida about four or five different times and never slowed down long enough to see more than marsh and beat up roads and highway and scrunched up city ... and I have seen many pictures of antics and whoop-la that goes on with festivals ... but I have never seen how beautifully old it was until I saw your picture. So ... don't ever dismiss or belittle it again.
have fun ;)

LOL it's a very old ... and probably very Southern US. It ranks right along with "Got'ta get back to my rat kill'n." Which just means it's time to get back to doing what I was doing before we stopped to visit.I was surprised to find you here when I just came from your web site. I was by to ponder over your New Orleans pic one more time ... and all that you wrote.
... I will send you an email ... I would like to have a digital version ... since I still don't have room for paper in my world.
have fun,
