Rare Peony-flowered Tulip

Uploaded: April 06, 2011

Description

Not really. But boy I thought so! It popped up in my yard from out of nowhere! I didn't plant it and it's not cold enough here in the Winter for tulips to flower reliably year after year. I needed to record this miraculous find! Turns out they are readily available in the trade. Oh well! :-) (laid on black velvet, window light)

Exif: F Number: 7.1, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/60 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 800, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 60.00 mm, Model: NIKON D700

Black velvet - the perfect "bed" for this beauty to rest upon! Very strange about it's grand appearance - maybe a squirrel...or maybe it was there from ages past and with your recent spring digging, up it popped. No matter - a gorgeous capture, Courtenay and a definite winner! The wonderful surprises of Gardening - you gotta love it! :) #9337186

Wonderful moment, Courtenay! I know this as squirrel transplanting. There are crocuses all over the lawn, tulips in the park behind the house...all a gift from the creatures around us.

This is a lovely image. Peony tulips are huge and beautiful. People often stop by and ask how peonies can be in bloom so early. You are lucky someone gave this to you to bring to us - lucky us!
