Hickory Hideaway
Uploaded: August 27, 2010
Hickory Run State Park, PA
A long, steep bank leads to this secluded spot. We had some scary moments decending with a large backpack and tripod. An HDR wouldn't work (I tried anyway), so the dark areas in the foreground had to be brought out a bit through PS to make it look the way it did when we were there. It was quite windy, so I increased the ISO to get a little quicker shutter without (hopefully) losing any dof. The tilt-shift lens really helped with the foreground detail.

The result sure is beautiful, Marty (of course, I'm not the one who had to truck down that bank toting all that gear)! The color and composition are perfect! #8865795Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna August 27, 2010

Never have used a lens of that type and really don't know much about it, Marty, but from the results here, it must be a beauty. The framing of the foreground foliage is great here, and I love the line of the lighter pads bringing us from the bank out into the calm of the lake. #8868875Marty Straub August 30, 2010
Thanks everyone! #8870614Val Feldman August 30, 2010
Beautiful framing, comp, colors and light. What a wonderful day it must have been by the looks of the color of that delicious crisp blue sky reflected in the lake. The last time I tried descending down a steep bank loaded with gear, I ended up sliding most of the way down on my bottom. Didn't hurt my gear, just my pride. Your sure-footed efforts paid off with a pristine capture of a beautiful, well-secluded view with a pov that I just bet not many PA'er's have not had the pleasure of seeing! Well done! #8871172Denny E. Barnes August 30, 2010
