Delicate Balance

Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah
The title here refers more to the challenge of exposing for the shadows and highlights, but the words evoke other dilemmas regarding public lands. On the one hand, we want everyone to realize and contribute to the upkeep of these beautiful places; on the other hand, we don't want, nor can we accomodate, large crowds. We want everyone to enjoy it, but, if they did, they'd ruin it. Did I mention the godawful cedar gnats that plague this place?

OK...I have to say it again...SPECTACULAR! What a wonderful view and what an excellent, well composed image of it. Meaningful background notes are an added plus. Great work again, Marty! #1285869Tammy M. Anderson July 07, 2010
Gorgeous view and landscape capture, Marty. Like the explanation of the title. #8740334Jeff Robinson July 07, 2010

So my jaw has dropped open and I am drooling on the keyboard. Does that suffice for a comment? #8740705Mitch Spence July 07, 2010
I don't know what a cedar gnat is, and I expect that I really don't want to know either. But I also expect that I'd have put up with them to see this glorious scene. I wonder about the names for places--hmmm dead horse. Someone found one there one time we assume. Beautifully captured here, Marty. The colors, the light, the shadows take us back to a time when there was nobody to come take a look at it. #8740756Monnie Ryan July 07, 2010
Cedar gnats? What a way to spoil an otherwise wonderful stop (for me, at least)! This is just gorgeous, especially with that beautiful sky and the unexpected blue oasis, Marty! #8740761Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna July 07, 2010

Spectacular is the right word. We drove right pass the turn in but were unable to visit...so glad I can see the beauty of this place through your eye. Gorgeous! #8750943Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
