This is a photo of a bronze memorial to 'Simpson and his Donkey', taken near the 'Shrine of Remembrance' in Melbourne. Every Nation has its wartime folklore and heroes, and Simpson and his Donkey are part of the Great War, Gallipoli and formation of the ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) tradition.

Today, 25th April, marks the 95th anniversary of this horrific battle, and this day is held as a memorial day of remembrance around the world by Australians and New Zealanders for the lives lost and all those who have served in all the wars since Gallipoli.

A wonderful image to remember such a sad time. There will be a lot of stories being told today & hopefully some good memories. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty with Tony & I celebrating our birthdays today & then at times I think it helps us remember. A very fitting image=^..^= #1262203
