Thank you guys for the kind comments. I was really pleased with the HDR process, so much so I blew this up to a 16x20 and put it on my wall at my office. I really want to go back to this place and do some more exposures on some of the other antique things there to do more HDR. Again, thanks for taking the time.

I think this place would have been a nightmare to capture, although it is charming.

Your ability to aim for the correct exposures and to work the captured images in HDR is what made the difference.

Your capture and your computer work deserves this big win, Donna.

A fascinating image Donna. It is not quite the same as being there, but close. I found myself pouring over it to identify all the interesting artifacts from a bygone age of motoring. Excellant work.
Would you please take the time to describe which HDR process you used? I have never tried it but from what I read the best way is to take several images with camera in a fixed position on a tripod, bracketing the exposures by changing the shutter speed in increments both faster and slower than the correct exposure. These images are then merged in Photoshop or similar to give a single image with a greater dynamic range than there is in a single image.
I have also read that a similar effect can be obtained by using a single exposure in RAW and then making several copies in RAW and varying the exposre in the software. From various forums there appears to be many differences of pinion as to how this compares with the other method.
Many thanks in anticipation.Pete

Pete, I took five exposure at f8, camera on a tripod. I shot raw, used Av priority and manually adjusted the exposure by using exposure compensation. I started at 2 stops under exposed, then 1 stop under exposed, 1 stop over exposed, 2 stops over exposed and of course one exposure with with zero compensation. I used the program Photomatix Pro to combine the 5 raw images and generate an hdr image then used the tone mapping feature in photomatix to tweak it.
