14 sec @ f 22 - O'Hare Airport - "The Sky's the Limit" - Neon art by Michael Hayden - Had a layover in Chicago on my way to San Diego... lucky me! This could not go unphotographed. There are people in this photo, but very determined... and at 14 secs, they simply vanish!

So..you're saying this art piece is
there, as found, as photographed
(except for the time out strollers)?
Amazing. Or did you wiggle your
camera around just a little bit?
I'm confused and impressed. It's
fabulous either way.

Thanks Magali and Art! Yes Art, this neon sculpture, as they call it, is found in the United terminal, spanning over 700'. And I promise... no camera wiggling, he he. Came down the escalator directly into this and was so impressed, I just had to get the shot. Tripod was in luggage on plane, so I set the timer and put the camera directly on the floor. Tried several different exposures and this one turned out the best. Was very surprised myself to see that the people were not visible at all. I guess in 14 secs, they probably had spanned 30' or more and there's not even a hint of them. Thanks for commenting!

I love this photo, as well as MANY others you have done. What lense did you use and also what other lenses do you prefer to use? Thanks.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the comments! Lonnie, I used the 18-55mm that came with my Digital Rebel. With a crop factor of 1.6, that really equates to 29-88mm. My other favorite lens to use is an 80-400mm Tokina. For the price(under $400), it takes pretty sharp photos on the long end(640mm with the crop factor). Please check out my new website. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! http://www.digital-d-signs.com

30 sec @ f16 - Charlotte

Thanks, Evy! I just discovered something this evening. I did a websearch to find other neon artwork by the artist Michael Hayden and was totally surprised to find a work he designed for a building right here in Charlotte, NC. I just happened to include it in a photo of the cityscape I took last year. I've included the photo here. His design is on the left side of the photo and it's called "Quadrille". According to the webpage I was on, "Michael wanted the neon to contain many hours of distinct programmed animations that would be randomly selected so that an average commuter would never see the same animation at the same time on subsequent days." He's been producing works for almost 40 years all over the world. I'm sure glad I stumbled across it!
