I got to thinking what Owen said, and did a little research. It turns out, Owen, that this effect is part of the phenomenon of this particular place, and Kathleen has captured it beautifully-much better than the others I saw in my search-WTG, and congratulations, Kathleen, on your spectacular POTD!

Thank you all for your kind comments. Owen, this is a single image. The ice on this beach flows with the current. If you look closely you can see where the water is actually flowing beneath the ice.
