Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all your kind words on this image. I went to bed just minutes before the winners were announced last night, and my neighbors this morning were probably wondering what to make of my shrieks and hollering at 6:30am when I finally learned about this. I then had to dash out to the cathedral (today was a tour duty day for me) and I'm just now getting home. I'm so happy with this! I've been a BP member for 64 months, and have learned so much here. Every month I pretty much drool over the Seconds, Firsts and Grand Prize images selected, always admiring them and wishing I could create images that good. To finally have an image of mine included in the ranks of other Grand Prize winners I have long looked up to, coveted and respected, is a bit overwhelming today---but so very thrilling and exciting! Thank you very much! Glad you made it in; if you get back, look me up (usually only there on Saturdays.) I'd shot this staircase many times over the years, but only when I finally got the ultra-wide 10mm, was I able to produce this look. And I too was inspired by someone before me---I think it was Tom Statas that once showed me a different ultra-wide-angle capture of this stairwell, many, many years ago, that undoubtedly influenced my eye for it, when my time to shoot came along!
